RaiseRED is an 18-hour dance marathon and the largest student-run philanthropic organization of the University of Louisville. Not only is raiseRED a Children’s Miracle Network Dance Marathon, but it is also a year-round effort which focuses on raising awareness and funds for children, families, and professionals fighting pediatric cancer and blood disorders at Norton Children’s Cancer Institute, affiliated with UofL School of Medicine. Last year, despite being in the middle of a pandemic, students at UofL were able to raise over $500,000! Looking forward to 2022, we are hoping to raise even more, because Kids Can’t Wait.100% of donations to raiseRED benefit the kids and the people who help them fight. 50% of donations go to supporting and providing patient needs at Norton Children’s Cancer Institute (NCCI), affiliated with the UofL School of Medicine. Patient needs include providing necessary things that the families or kids need during treatment, as well as providing funds to hire staff, social workers, and other professionals needed to help patients and their families throughout treatment. This past year, raiseRED funding was able to provide a position for a Child Life Specialist (CCLS), who will help children of the clinic overcome life’s most challenging events. The other 50% goes directly to benefit the research of the UofL School of Medicine’s Department of Pediatrics’ Division of Hematology, Oncology, and Stem Cell Transplantation. This is how Dr. Ashok Raj, MD, Dr. William Tse, MD, and other doctors and researchers conduct studies, labs, and research to make strides towards finding a cure for their patients. We hope to be able to continue to help fund for more needed positions and give more funding to Norton Children’s Cancer Institute and UofL’s School of Medicine research, because Kids Can’t Wait!
