RaiseRED is an 18-hour dance marathon and the largest student-run philanthropic organization at the University of Louisville. The event has a year-round focus on raising awareness and funds for the children, families, and doctors fighting pediatric cancer and blood disorders at UofL. Last year, nearly 1,000 students raised over $690,000! We are aiming even higher in 2021 and working to raise even more! 50% of the donations to raiseRED directly benefit the research of the UofL School of Medicine's Department of Pediatrics' Division of Hematology and Oncology. The other 50% goes to the Norton Children's Cancer Institute affiliated with the UofL School of Medicine to provide services and treat needs for the children and their families going through treatment in the Hematology and Oncology Clinic. In years past, raiseRED funding created a position for a much-needed social worker in the clinic, helped support Dr. Raj and Dr. Tse's research initiatives, and supported hundreds of children fighting terrible diseases.
I dance for my family and for those who have felt the pain of losing a loved one or have battled alongside a loved one dealing with cancer or blood disorders. I have lost two of my grandmas to various cancers and I want to help find a cure to prevent that kind of pain in my life, or anybody else's. Not only do I do it for my family, but for all of those affected by this uncontrollable disease that nobody deserves. I dance for the kids I get to meet through our events that continually bring smiles and happiness into my life. I dance for my future to know that I tried to make a difference and hopefully a cure is found. I would be happy to dance for you in someone's honor, please ask!
